Rules & Etiquette
Brazilian jiu-jitsu is close-contact martial art.
To keep training safe, respectful, and productive, we follow a clear set of guidelines.
These standards are not meant to be intimidating—they exist so everyone can train confidently and consistently.
Training Expectations
We ask all students to:
-
Train to the best of your ability during each class
-
Attend consistently when possible (twice per week is encouraged)
-
Treat training partners and coaches with respect
-
Respect the tap and make sure it is obvious.
-
Focus on learning and improving over time
-
Immediately inform the coach of any injury or illness
Effort, consistency, and awareness help create a positive training environment for everyone.
Class Etiquette
To keep class running smoothly:
-
If you arrive late, quietly find a partner and ask for a quick recap so class is not disrupted.
-
If you need to leave early, please inform the coach beforehand as a courtesy.
-
Adults are not required to bow or address coaches formally.
-
Children and teens should bow before stepping on the mat and address instructors as Professor or Coach.
-
Please remain quiet and attentive when the coach is speaking or demonstrating
These small habits help maintain focus and respect on the mats.
Cleanliness & Facility Care
Help us keep the academy safe and welcoming:
-
Clean up after yourself
-
Take your belongings home with you
-
Use academy sweat towels when needed
-
Place used towels and rented uniforms in the laundry bins
A clean environment is part of safe training.

Good hygiene protects you and your training partners
Please follow these standards:

Gi and training attire must be washed after every class
-
Clothing must be clean, odor free, and in good condition
-
Clean your feet before stepping onto the mats
